What type of role is this? Community Advisory Board Members are volunteer members who help Save Texas Moms better understand how to serve the communities to which their efforts are directed.
Who can join? Parents, doulas, healthcare staff, and business and community leaders who are passionate about improving maternal health across Texas. Ideally, a mix of the following: Parents (single and coupled), doulas/midwives/nurses/OB-GYNs, rural clinic staff from maternity care deserts, public health faculty and grad students, faith and civic leaders, and small business owners.
Do I need a professional background in healthcare? No, we value lived experience equally with professional expertise.
What are the requirements and responsibilities? We only require that you be a resident of the state of Texas, 18 years or older, and attend regular strategy meetings.
How often do you meet and where? We have four scheduled meetings per year (typically in January, April, July, and October) hosted virtually on Zoom. Materials are provided via Google Drive.
How much time should I expect to commit? Roughly 10-12 hours per quarter, including a one-hour meeting, pre-reads, and optional projects/activities.
What are some examples of what members do? They seek out scholarship sponsors, provide campaign feedback, connect with stakeholders, champion fundraising efforts, and vote on annual priorities, among other responsibilities.
What happens after I apply? We'll schedule a 15-minute virtual chat to learn more about your interests before we make a final choice.
